Edits, proofs and other stuff

proofWhat a busy week it has been. I would say I’m glad it’s Friday but I’ll be working this weekend on trying to finish my third edits on Book 4. I hope to have it finished by next week sometime. I have a few passages I need to add. I don’t know if I have mentioned it or not, but in the fourth book, you’ll also get a short for free!! Free is always good.

Monday was Labor Day, I usually work on that particular holiday and I did this year as well. On Tuesday my proof copy cam for my payper back book. That’s the photo you see on this page. It looked good and I approved it so next week sometime it should be up on Amazon. Next week I should also be finished doing the digital version and we’ll offer both of them at the same time. I really like Amazon’s new program, where you buy the paperback and get the digital version for free or at a super discounted price. I’ll be playing with the prices.

Weds, I got my first edits back, so been working on trying to get those finished. I’ve given myself a week. I do not enjoy editing as much as I do writing, but it’s all part of the process that makes it a book you want to read.

Hope you have a good weekend and hope you get a chance to do something fun!

First paperback proof is on its way…

I have just completed the first round of submissions for my first paperback. It will include the first three books in the 12 Guardians series. My proof is on it’s way to me, I’ll then check it out and if it looks ok then it will be approved and ready to sale. Hope to have it online and ready for sale sometime next week. The goal to have the digital version of that book will be the first of September.

My edits are coming along nicely for book 5. Book 4 is still at the editor. Book 7 continuing to write, as I’ve mentioned before I usually write threads, this book has two main threads, one in Jesus time and the other now. I am almost done with the now thread and then I’ll start on the Jesus one. So I guess you could say I’m getting close to halfway there. This has been a harder book to write for a number of different reasons, I don’t want to go into details or I would spoil it for you, but I’m excited I’m halfway there. Like I’ve mentioned before, sometimes my characters start to go way off track and do their own thing, which is fine with me, sometimes it’s just hard to corral them back by the last page.

I will be giving some hints on creating your createspace masterpiece probably sometime next week, I’ll send some pictures when I have  my proof.  Also if I don’t speak with you before next week I hope you and your family have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!!

Busy as a Bee

Hope your week is going well. I’ve been super busy working on writing book 7, doing my edits on book 5 (I usually do two edits before I send them to my editor), trying to get my first three books formatted for a paperback, and making some money doing what pays the bills. Whew.

Today, hopefully I will have the book ready and submitted to createspace. I thought the process would just be to take the three books I already have and combining them and hit submit. Not the case at all, but I hope to finish that today and I’ll submit some notes I’ve taken on the process. The good thing is usually a process takes a long time when you do it initially and then each time you do it, you get faster. I do know it’s important to get a book that people can hold in their hands. As always I’ll let you know how things go.

Enjoy your Tuesday.

Summer is winding down

Hope you had a wonderful weekend. I did, went with my wife and daughter on a road trip. We spent the weekend in Lexington and had a wonderful time. I can’t believe that summer is almost over and Haley will be starting her junior year in high school tomorrow, she’ll be trying for her drivers license in a little over a week. My how time flies. I didn’t get to see her as much as I wanted to this summer, since she was working at her ‘job’ for most of the summer.

Book 7 – work is coming along nicely. If I told you something about it, I think I would give too much of the plot away, so I’ll just say it’s progressing. I finished my first round (two) of edits for book 4 and I should have that to the editor tomorrow for her first round. The editing process is taking a little longer than I thought it would, so that’s why the next book will be out in October, although if you’ve been around me long, you will know if the edits are finished then I’ll be putting it out before then.

After I finish with my bit and send it off, I’ll be working on getting the paperback edition of Guardians 1,2,3 done. I hope to have that done in a week or so. I have been pleasantly surprised by people that have told me they would love to get it as a paper back. I’ll put some notes on my process, how it goes, how easy it was (or wasn’t). Then I think I’ll test the waters for an audio book, I think I might have to read it myself and I’m definitely not sure how that would go…. I don’t know how long my voice would hold out. I may try it anyway, just to test the waters.

One thing I don’t know if I’ve mentioned before, with book 4 we’ll be also editing a short story (about 10k words) which we wrote in a day. We’ll be making that available free in a number of different ways.

Have a wonderful evening.

Book 3 is out

book3-1-smallBook 3 is live on Amazon –

Book 3 will be free on August 21,22,23.
An audio book of the three should hopefully be available in September.
Book 4 should be up in October.

We should have a paper version combining books 1,2,and 3, hopefully finished by the end of August. We’ll send you a note and let you know.

If you have any friends who enjoy reading please share that link with your friends.

After you read it, please don’t forget to review it, thanks so much for reading our books.

Have a wonderful day!

Book 6 First Draft Finished :-) Book 3 sent for final edits

I can’t believe it’s the last day of July, it really did go by fast.

Book 3, I still don’t know exactly what I want to call it. I think maybe Saul, because it tells quite a bit of his backstory. It was sent to the editor for the final edits, so it will be published in August, probably the second week of August. I’ll be working on the cover, when I get the book back from edits it takes a couple of days to go through them, read it again and then format it for publishing.

When I get Book 3 published, I’ll be working on combining 1,2, and 3 into an E-book, and I hope to have a paper back finished by Sept. This is important because I also want to give it to someone in September, I think that would be really cool.  In September I also hope to get an audio book finished for books 1,2,3. So some busy times ahead.

Finished book 6 today, I wrote a killer last sentence, but not going to share it, because it will give too much away. I thought about taking the day off tomorrow, then decided against it, so I will be starting book 7 tomorrow. I was going to title Book 7, Water, Wine and A Wake. But the wine got pushed out, maybe I’ll get to it in number 7. The tentative title for Book 7 is Traitor.

Camp Nano went well, I think I had a total of 114,450. I had some good conversations with my cabin mates and met some good friends. I did remember to put my words in the box this time, so hopefully I’ll be able to get whatever cool goodies they are handing out on August 5.

Have a great rest of the week.

Free Days, Book status updates

Hope your week is going well. We had a couple of good free days, better than the first time and that was what we were looking for. If you’re interested let us know and we’ll give you some stats.

We have started our part of the edits on book 4 – The Nest. I got word from my editor she was almost done with the second part of her edits for book 3, so that should be out as scheduled in August.

I think I have about 40 thousand words left to go for book 6.

++++ Minor Spoiler Alert ++++

Isaac has his Reckoning in book 6. I enjoyed writing that thread of the novel quite a bit, more than I thought I would. We still have the Wine and the Wake portion of the book to go. I don’t want to make the book too long, I guess I’ll just write it and see where my characters take me, they always have a way of surprising me.

Whatever you’re doing, I hope you have a great day.

Are you writing a story other people would like to read… and some updates

Been a while since I posted, been super busy so I’m not complaining, much anyway.

The first round of edits came back from book 3, I still don’t know what I want the title to be. Either Reckoning or Saul. If you’ve read the first two books, hopefully you have, this story takes up with David and Miriam’s Reckoning and gives us the backstory on Saul. How he became a Guardian. I finished up my edits, I normally do two passes. The first pass agrees or disagrees with the edit suggestions and fill in any gaps I might have left out. Then pass 2 is another general edit. And last night it went back to the Editor.

Awesome day of writing this morning, I think I got my 3500 words done in an hour and a half. I read something somewhere that asked a good question. If you don’t like writing what you’re writing, do you think someone would like reading it. The answer to that of course is no. I enjoy writing. I have written every day (almost) since March 14th. I had a good weekend too. I joined a Iron Man writers contest, I didn’t enter, didn’t expect to win, but it gave me a good excuse. At the end of book 4 there is a hanging thread about an incident that happens or will happen (or maybe it won’t) happen in Austin Texas. Last Saturday I wrote that story, 10k + change in one day. I’m not so pleased about the word count, but the fact that I wrote a complete story in ten thousand words. I didn’t think I would be able to do it, but I did. I enjoyed it, I did skip writing on Sunday and then back in the saddle again on Monday.

In the summer reading camp I’m 68k words into book 6. I think I should have expanded my goal a bit (it’s 100k). Ton of different things happening. I don’t think I’m giving away too much when I say Isaac is doing his Reckoning and he is running into some problems.

A reminder – next week Books 1 and 2 will be free. Stay tuned to Facebook, G+, and the blog and we’ll remind you.

Enjoy your day!!

Book 5 finished – Book 2 John the Baptist sent for final edits and proofreading.

Every have one of those days when everything flowed smoothly. I had that kind of day yesterday. I woke up at 3 am East coast time, I had to do my work early because I was taking a road trip with my daughter. I got book 5 finished, sent book 2 for the final edits, and I got my rough outline done for book 6.  Besides that I got to spend the entire day with my daughter. So a truly awesome day.

I’m taking a few days off from writing. Not because I can’t write, I just have a bunch of different things I need to be doing and I’ll be finishing two different works in July. I’ll be working on Book 6, tentatively title Wine, Water and a Wake. I’ll also be doing a writing sprint when I finish a short in one day (around 10k words). You’ll get that book free. I also want to work on getting the cover finished before the first.

So book 2 – John the Baptist, will be up on Amazon in July, and the third book will be there in August.

Hope you had a wonderful day yesterday to.

Here’s the words I’ve written over the past week or so.
